Orthopaedic massage is a specialized form of manual treatment that combines techniques from many therapeutic traditions. The goal of Orthopaedic Massage is to dissolve adhesions; normalize the position of the soft tissue and release its torsion; lengthen the connective tissue; hydrate the joints; facilitate normal neurological function by muscle energy techniques; and release entrapment of the peripheral nerves. Orthopaedic Massage is an extremely efficient and effective method of therapy.

History of Massage
In Greek it is MASSO, to touch or to handle, to knead or to squeeze. The Chinese documented massage, dating back as far as 3000 years ago. Hippocrates wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for joint and circulation problems.

Massage was introduced into the United States in 1858, and Dr. Douglas O. Gram became known as the Father of Swedish Massage. Since World War II massage has become popularized and continues to flourish today.

In 1992, a National Certification exam for Massage and Bodywork was established. Today, many people look to massage for maintaining good health and energy, preventing illness, and for the simple relief from the stress of life.
